Trouble opening web pages in both Safari and Firefox

This is the error that comes up on seemingly random pages:
Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at www.bidnapper.com.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

The laptop seems to work fine...

Is it the same site all the time, or does it vary between sites? If its the same, it could be a firewall or filter somewhere (Is it in 1 location where you dont own the network? or is it constant) - Id check your Firewall settings - seems most likely to me that its stopping certain sites, or your network owner/ISP is.
