Old (machine) to New (machine)
ok- so i've got kinda an odd situation
but- i've got a PB G4 Rev C and a new Mac Mini the mini is all set up the way i want it the PB rev C has a clean slate basically i want to copy the Mini setup over to the PB as i'm plannin on gettin rid of the mini- question- when you clean install on a machine it asks you if you want to 'copy stuff from another machine' etc- is that just drag and drop using the firewire connection? OR does it really go through the other machine and kinda 'clone' it onto the new machine- ie- preference files, specific desktop images, 3rd party lil gimiks (konfibulator, real player, divix...etc) i realize in the end it won't really matter as if i wanna do it i'll have to go through it- but i'm courious which way it works so i know how much effort this'll take thanks! |

the program is easier than drag and drop. tells you step by step what to do and asks u want you want ... user prefs, apps, etc. and all you have to do is click on a box and TADA! you're off!

but i kinda bought it on a whim b/c i found a good deal- as my PB was in the shop gettin a new HD - and has been givin me lots of trouble (12"g4 rev c) - i donno- i was compulsive since then- i've weighed the ups and downs and having a desktop is nice- but i'm more of a laptop guy i think ![]() so- partially $ issues partially just 'image' and look issues mostly- b/c in the next 6 months i plan on using the laptop more than needing a desktop and i have no reason to have 2 machines right now- maybe when i'm older? i donno- we'll see if i do it or not- but- i'll prolly list it here if i'm going to sell it off - no worries 1.42, 1gb ram, 80GB- nothing else special - combo - no BT/AE |

I just got a iMac G5 to replace my old iMac G3 and I did the Firewire hookup and it copied everything I wanted from the old machine to the new machine (programs, preferences, mailboxes, bookmarks, desktop image, desktop items). Worked great. Only problem is my new machine is now as disorganized as my old machine was.
