can't download latest version of itunes 10.1 to my iPad

I'm not sure what the latest version of itunes is but don't know how to download to my iPad. Any hints please

Maybe because you can't? iOS devices have a different type of iTunes application which you can't download from the internet. Your iTunes application already installed should be stable, and if it isn't take it in to the Apple Store

thanks but when I connected my ipad to my imac it said that I must download itunes version 10.1 to my ipad?

No, it says you must update iTunes thats on your computer so that it would be able to sync with the iPad. Not put OSX iTunes on your iPad
