When I plug my shuffle into my ibook, it shows up and everything however the icon on the desktop looks like your standard run of the mill disk mount icon, not the pretty lol ipod shuf icon. I even did a restore and get the same result.. Anybody else c what i mean?

Yup. I believe that's because the shuffle gets formatted to work with PCs and Macs, thus the generic icon. I had the same issue with my out-of-the-box iPod Photo until I reformatted for the Mac only, an option you don't get with the shuffle.

Try http://www.widgetwidget.com - they do a set of really nice icons which may include a Shuffle.
Also http://www.iconfactory.com/preview.asp?type=search&id=231&query=iPod - the Smoothicons 11 set includes a shuffle icon.
To change the icon:
1. Select the icon file you want to use in the Finder.
2. Go to 'Show Info' in the Finder's File menu.
3. A window will appear. Select the icon in the top left hand corner. It will be highlighted in blue once you have done so, Press command-c. Or go to 'Copy' in the Finder's Edit menu.
4. Select the application/document/file whose icon you want to change.
5. Once more, select 'Show Info' from the File menu, or press command-i.
6. Click on the icon in the window that has just popped up.
7. Press command-v. You have just pasted in the icon that was on the clipboard.

Mine did that too. DId you try using the iPod updater in your utility folder (or included in the software with the shuffle)? I did a restore to factory spec and it now shows up as on the desktop as a Shuffle icon.

Update....
Just tried the icon change on an old Creative Muvo - changed it to the Shuffle icon from iconfactory. It seems to 'stick' when ejected and remounted. However, I also renamed it, and the name change didn't stick - it returned to 'untitled' when remounted.
