Fscklog posts a photo of what is believed to be from the box of the new 13" MacBook Pro that Apple is planning to release on Thursday. Amongst the features, includes the name of Apple's Light Peak implementation: ThunderBolt.

Mac4Ever posts these photos that appear to be marketing materials of the new MacBook Pros with a partial image of notebook itself:

Finally, this image claiming to show a ThunderBolt port which looks a lot like a DisplayPort. We're not sure the original source of this image:

So the question is, will the LightPeak standard connector look like the mDP connector, or will you need an mDP -> LP adapter for anything other than a display?

When you look closer, it looks like the photo has been "cut" diagonally through the left USB-port... Maybe fake?
 
if this is the thunderbolt then what has happened to the mini display port?

Apple has been moving to keeping the I/O on one side for smaller laptops, USB on Air excluded, so I cant see them putting the display on the other side.

although I would love if this is true!!

It seems the German label reads that the Thunderbolt port supports both the new high speed connection with a mini-display connection, combined into one port.

At least thunderbolt is a more saleable name than light peak.
 
Some underwhelming specs, still 1280x800? The 1440x900 better be an option.. actually eff it I'll be going toward the 15". Glad to see an i5 though. 2.04KG, that's the same weight as current systems...
 
this implementation would simply SUCK!

It would mean that Apple won't use the standard Light/Copper-Peak Port which was supposed to be physically compatible with a USB Port! It would further mean, that other LightPeak Ports (on PCs and devices) would be different from the one on the Mac. Now why would Apple do that? It would suck for the customer!

The port can drive displays as well.
 
Color me surprised.

I seem to remember reading about apple paying a large ransom to not have a 'No Smoking' sign at some of their stores.


... and now we see Apple using official Intel branding on their boxes?

I'm shocked.

Who cares about a new io port...last time I checked, most MBP users don't bring their external drives to Starbucks. Apple -1

As a german native speaker i can tell you that it says 'supports Thunderbold- and DisplayPort-devices', so i think it's a combined port.
 
Lightpeak but no SSD/redesign and for me a step back in graphics?

If this is no joke I will keep my toshiba business laptop...

But I still hope this is some well made fake!
 
I think it is a fake...

... or Apple is starting to change something in their relation with Intel.

Apple never uses the Intel images/logos of the processors. They usualy design one of their own.

That Intel i5 graphic/logo is the Intel official one. So I think that taht image is fake.
