Apple Launches $0.99 Mac FaceTime App on Mac App Store

Apple has launched the FaceTime for Mac App on the Mac App Store for $0.99:
Quote:
FaceTime for Mac makes it easy to talk, smile and laugh with friends and family on their iPhone 4, iPod touch or Mac. Getting started is quick and easy — simply enter your Apple ID and you're ready to go. Whether you're talking to someone on an iPhone or on another Mac, video calls with FaceTime look great. There's no better way to stay in touch with all your favorite faces.
The app was in public beta before this, but with the imminent launch of the new MacBook Pros, Apple has launched version 1.0.

Still don't understand why Apple don't integrate FaceTime into iChat... would make far more sense than a separate application.

Way to go Apple

Yeah! Pay money for a rebranded iChat AV!

Hooray to Apple and their brilliant marketing move to collect even more credit card numbers!

Charging $1 for this? I know it's inexpensive, but that just seems like Apple is trying to be cheap?

Maybe it will help offset the costs of the crazy fast new MBP's from today? lol

Actually, I think this is simply Apple's way of getting more Mac users to update and try out the Mac App Store.

I'd try it out now, but the iSight on my early 2008 MBP died at some point in the past. Not sure when. Probably from going unused.

hmm slightly angry at the $0.99 charge, especially for something that we previously had free (beta) but I guess it doesn't really matter. I'll be downloading this

So the new MacBook Pros will have HD 720p Facetime HD (iSight) cameras! Sweet

(See the description for the app in the Mac App Store)

That's a tad ridiculous.

Seems daft that they advertise the iSight webcam now as a "FaceTime" webcam, but you need to pay money to take advantage of this new "FaceTime" branding malarky?

FaceTime isn't even a full blown IM client either..

I also never understood why the facetime wasn't simply made into iChat.

Even if we downloaded the beta, we have to pay for it now? This is kind of lame, Apple.

*****!

In no way I'm paying for this. It's not because I can't afford $1, of course.

Same principle as always people. If Apple or ANY developer charges something for an app, then it forces the customer to read the description and be sure what they are downloading. Thus reducing the amount of negative reviews from customers who are always quick to criticize when it is often their own fault.

Anyway. I really dislike FaceTime. I have never ever gotten it to work twice with the same person. The amount of identifiers is mental. I can't even call myself with an iPhone 4.

Did anyone else notice "Making HD video calls requires a built-in FaceTime HD camera" as far as I know, the facetime(isight) cameras were VGA quality.
