Own iPad and iPhone? Any regrets owning both?

I'm looking to buy a new iPad2 with 3G, however having a tough time deciding if I should wait for a iPhone5 or get a different phone with Sprint. My contract is up and want to upgrade my phone sometime in the near future. Why would I want to buy a iPhone when I have a iPad? Thanks.

There are a few reasons I have the iPhone as well as an iPad:

I like it. In fact it's the only mobile phone I have ever had that I like.

It syncs well with the iPad and my Macs.

It has the same feel. Generally things are done the same way on both.

It shares many Apps etc.

I did consider at one point whether I should get a cheap phone next, as I don't use the iPhone all that much, but when I do use it I find it invaluable. The iPad is very portable, but there are many times when I don't want to carry it around.

If Apple ever release a cheaper version of the iPhone I may consider that, but I don't see any reason for moving away.

Very handy if you live in the US, but it isn't an option for a lot of us. I'm not sure where the OP is from, but you are correct that it probably would be an option for him.

I actually have a 3gs and have seen no need to upgrade to a 4.

Since I got my iPad I have definitely used all the non-phone functions of my iPhone a lot less. Still wouldn't be without it though.

I regret that my wife has the iPad 90% of the time and that i don't own a second one. It is the single greatest electronic device I have ever used.

No regrets. One is tiny and one is big. Two different uses. My iPhone never leaves my side and my iPad has only left the house a few times.

Save your money on the 3G iPad and get wifi-only. I use my iPad at home all the time and use my iPhone when out. At home, I use my iPhone sparingly, but they do interact in some cases, such as with the very handy Photo Transfer app which allows me to transfer photos from my iPhone to iPad over wifi or bluetooth for easier editing on the iPad.

But I still use my iPhone more primarily for games than I do on my iPad. I find that smaller, hand-held platform much more conducive to gaming.

I'm the opposite of many people it seems. I simply don't use the ipad and still doing everything on my iphone. When I'm traveling the ipad's great for movies and whatnot, but when at home I use my iphone or MBP. Have to go out of my way to remember that I have the ipad and can use it too. Have probably used it a dozen times total in the two months I've owned it.

The only regret is that I don't use the beautiful retna display as much as I feel like I should! But thats part due to the beautiful huge screen of the iPad thats what makes you go to it rather then the phone! With that in mind a 3GS would feel a little better about since it would be only 50

But the iPhone is def the choice over the iPad when your out, firstly it's much smaller and more comfortable to be on depending the situation/location your in, second it's much easier to put away and get going, Second its the communication device, witch obviously can be replicated with a 3G iPad, but again faster to respond on if your out and about.

If you get both the def help each other out and work good together. Just know when your home IPAD wins all day!

Definitely it's great to have both. They work well together and hand off functionality from one to the other as needed.

The iPad is my home computer. I sometimes use my MBP for specialized tasks, but most of my work is done on my iPad.

The iPhone is my daily travel companion. The novel I read on my iPad the previous night? I continue it on my iPhone during the day. I get my email during the day with my iPhone. Then I'm home again and it's back to my iPad.

I love all my devices, but if I had to settle on just one it would be the iPad. It's the device I cannot live without.

My Iphone 4 is used as a Ipod Touch since I cancel my AT&T service was getting bad reception when I needed my phone the most. I will purchase the new Ipad once it comes out since I gave my old one to my Mom. I will used my Droid X when not in a wifi area to get online with the Ipad.

No regrets at all. I use them both a lot, both at home and while travelling. I use the phone slightly more for games I think (and as a phone ofc!), but I use the iPad much more for web browsing, watching films, and email.

I don't often use 3G internet on either, but I do occasionally, so it's nice to have the option.

I have both a 3Gs iPhone and a 3G iPad. I have not activated the data plan on the iPad and use hotspot programs on either my iPhone (jailbroken) or a Motorola Droid which I use for work.

I have no regrets on having both. I had contemplated giving up my iPhone and going back to a "regular" cell phone since I carry the iPad with me regularly but I have found I like having the convenience of both. They are both good in certain situations.

I am about to buy the word processing and spreadsheets apps for the iPad as soon as I decide which is best so hopefully I will not have to carry around my work laptop as much and leave it in my work vehicle most of the time.

Thanks guys for your responses. Interesting to see how you guys use both. I am leaning towards owning a iMac and iPad2 and getting a HTC EVO Shift for my voice and texting needs. I can envision brining my iPad2 with me to many places, other than grocery shopping or quick errands. Can't wait until tomorrow and thanks again guys for your input. I enjoyed reading all your responses.

They both have their uses. I find I use the iPad much more for videos and the like.

Since I bought my iPad a couple of months ago, I find I am using my i4 a good amount less than before I had the iPad, at least for app usage. My eyes aren't what they used to be, so I like using apps on the larger iPad screen. I have the WiFi version so I use PDANet to connect my iPad to my i4. After all that, I haven't decided whether I will get the WiFi version of the iPad 2 or spring the extra $130 or so and get the 3G. If I got the 3G, would I be able to use my i4 sim to use the data and not have to pay a separate data service for it?

None at all. I didn't buy the iPad until May because I had a laptop and an iPhone, so I didn't see the point of the iPad. But then I saw friends and family buy it, and I was hooked. I needed to have it. Now I hardly ever use my laptop anymore. I just don't need it. I just love playing games like Words with Friends, Catan, Disc Drivin' (awesome and addictive iPhone game, but RetinaPad on Cydia makes it look fine) and more on the iPad. It's just so much better to have the big screen for those types of things.

The iPad just has such an incredible ecosystem of apps because of the iPhone that make it so ***** awesome.
