I just compared my 2010 model with my brand new 2011. I've seem people stating they believe the new one is louder and I can now say this is definitely the case. It seems the fan is making the noise but definitely louder even when idle. So for anyone considering an upgrade, keep this in mind!

Are you sure you don't have a bad fan?
which 13in model did you get, the i5 or the i7.
I have the 13" with the 2620m and under load I can barely hear anything, definitely not enough noise to irritate me.
I've got the 2011 baseline 13" and hardly hear a thing. Then again, maybe I'm not accustomed listening for fan noise.
From what I have experienced with the base 13", the fan only really kicks in and gets loud when I'm playing games, especially something like SC2. Otherwise I don't hear a thing. The loud fan doesn't really bother me though since I know it's going to happen and I usually have the volume high enough that the fan is drowned out.
Hi-end 13" MBP will run hotter than the baseline 13" ... faster components create more heat, therefore fan needs to work more to keep them cool.

Sounds like the I7 is noiser than the I5. Try taking it to an apple store and see what they say.
My i7 13" is very quiet and I have to do something quite CPU intensive for the fans to be noticeable

As I have a 2011 i7 MBP and never had a MBP before it´s hard to compare. But with my MBP, I think the hard drive is a bit noisy and not the fan. You can hear it all the time. I think it´s the hdd because it comes from the right corner. And if I´m right the fan is in the middle of the MBP, right?! Does anybody have the same experience?

You might be right! I didn't consider that but I think it's the HDD. fan does sound different. Anyone else experiencing this?

We get that it is louder. The question that has to be asked is WHY is it louder? I presume Apple is using the same fan, so is that fan spinning faster more of the time? Is the machine getting hotter? Or is there something else in there making noise?
Charting fan speed+temp vs dB under load would be very interesting, if anybody is up to it. For both 2010 and 2011 models. Get some real data here rather than a subjective "it is louder".
Quantify this. What is making the noise? Generally in the past Apple has idled the fans around 2,000RPM and max speed was around 6,000RPM. Is your fan spinning substantially faster than 6,000RPM (6,500 or 7,000?). Is your machine running hotter than the 2010 13"?
Quantify "running better". That is such a vague statement that it isn't really helpful to anybody, nor does it target any specific subsystem in the computer. I do not understand how the 2011 MBP could "run worse" for a large majority of tasks, seeing as it is much faster.
