Will any Hard Drive work for a mac?

since I've decided to hold out my wanting a PM until june, i'm wanting to buy an external HD for my 12 inch powerbook. Could I just buy one of the WD or Seagate HD that are always on sale, pop it into an external case and it will work on mac?

Yes. Just format it to OSX Extended (Journaled if you want) with DiskUtility and it should be fine...

Yes. Get a firewire/usb2 case and ATA drive (no SCSI).

excellent thanks!

is there a good way to connect a pc to a mac, possibly using firewire? when im moving large files through my ethernet network it goes so slow. what if I used a 6-pin to 6-pin firewire cable, would that work? mostly moving audio and video files back and forth

Firewire works Mac-to-Mac, but I have not experience using fw PC-to-Mac.

It is a theoretical can-do. But hey, its Windows, and that's also a theoretical can-work. 🙂
