I've had this (seemingly minor?) issue, along with all of these other people:

Basically, the glass bezel at the bottom edge sticks up ever so slightly, with its peak just to the right of the home button. In more serious cases, it actually makes a slight clicking noise when pressed down on (see the video in the last thread in the list). In more minor cases, the glass is just a bit spongy/sticky when pressing on that spot.

Anyway, I went through the pictures posted on the iFixit teardown and found something that could be related. Whatever that component is, it might be what's causing the glass panel above it to be raised slightly, or not to be glued down as securely.

you didn't solve no mystery, you just added some more speculation to the fire.....Jeez,,I'd hate it if you were a detective...the killer would never be caught!! HA HA!
Is anyone else sick of people writing bollocks on these forums,,thinking they know the answers to all the questions, when in fact they dont!
No mystery solved here= negative thread title!

Fair point, thanks. I've changed the title of my post, as I agree it's overstating the case.

As far as the rest of it goes, I don't think it's bollocks. I think it's worth sharing this stuff with others who are having the same issue. They might appreciate it more than you do. But I shouldn't have suggested I had concrete answers.

The same thing is happening to mine. The area around the home button is spongey and I can press it down. What'd you do? Did you take it back or call Apple. I'm scared to take it to the genius bar or call Apple for fear that they'll send it off for "repair" and with all the seemingly IPad shortages I'll be without an iPad for who knows how long.

I took mine to the Apple Store and they said they never saw anything like it before. They swapped it out for a brand new one in the box. Keep in mind I had my box with me and didn't load anything on the iPad. At the time they were telling customers that they "weren't selling any that day". Meanwhile they were quietly fulfilling orders and being sneaky. Just go in and show them. They have replacement units. Take your box with you and delete the contents on the iPad. They let me inspect each one until I was happy.

That's the thing, I have installed a ton of apps which I know can be easily put back on from a back up, but I've also installed an anti glare film on the glass and an invisible shield on the backing to protect it from scratches. Those things werent cheap. And another thing is that I have to drive 40 mins away to my nearest Apple store on a slim chance that they won't have the color and model I have....I'm going on vacation later this month in that area so I'll just swing pop in just to see what they say. Thanks for sharing. I don't feel as hesitant to take mine in now.
