Hey

I have a sim free iphone 4, which I bought from apple store uk. At this time I'm not in uk, and I faced problems to updating my device to 4.3.1 with the itunes itself. So I downloaded the ipsw file from apple servers.
And my questions are,
Is there any differences between updatin with this file and the one that itunes does itself?! I just wonder, that this ipsw file is the same one that itunes download itself!
And!
Is'nt there any problems for my sim free device, after updatin with ipsw file?!
Are these ipsw files all the same for all iphones, for ex the one I bought and the at&t ones in us?!

Regards

You need the sim from the carrier the phone was originally locked to. It will not go past the activation screen. Or you can hacktivate with pwnage.

As I said, the device is sim-free (factory unlocked)!

Sorry, I'm used to dealing with locked phones.

The ipsw you use in iTunes is the same as the one you d/l from the apple servers. The main difference is that the iTunes one gets deleted after installation--unless you d/l via iTunes. There's also no difference in the British and American ipsw.
I've read about some issues where the unlock does a disappearing act, but I don't know if that applies to all factory-unlocked phones.

Thank you so much for your attention.

I mysef didn't find anything about this issue over the net for sim free ones!
So, I have to do the risk and see whats happening!

No more Ideas?!

You might want to expand the search to factory unlocked. That's the term normally used in America for your phone.

At the iPhone hacks section.
Yes all GSM iphone 4 ipsw files are the same.
Make sure your hosts file dont redirect to cydia or the restore/upgrade wont go thru.
Try doing it on another PC or a computer you havent run tinyumbrella.
Or open up Tinyumbrella on your computer go to advanced and uncheck the box that says "set hosts to cydia on exit" and click apply changes on the bottom right of TU.
Then fire up itunes and it will let you update to official firmware.

@ Eastercat,
Yes I did that already! That's the same! ;)

@ Applejuiced,
Yes I'm sure that I downloaded it from from apple hosts!
So if the ipsw files are the same, there wont be any problem?!
So why did you tell me to use TU?! What does it do for me?
After all if Itunes with this ipsw file can update mine, and it doesn't makes me any problems why should I use other softwares?!

And thank u two :)

If it let's you update with no problems then you don't need TU.
If It gives you an error at the end of the update then try what I suggested above.
