I went to apple's site about using clamshell mode with an external display, I can see it working to shut down the computer, would one go to the apple logo & chose shut down right?

but what about powering up again, the power button is on the inside of the laptop, so I would have to open it up each time to turn it on? & does this sort of defeat the purpose of the convenience of clamshell mode? if I have to open the lid every time to power up, I may as well just leave the lid open.

& how do I deal with this mode when it comes time to calibrate & run off my battery? as on apple the computer has to be plugged into an ac outlet.

does clamshell mode keep or help preserve the laptop screen as it is not on? will I use less wattage or run cooler than if I run the monitor with the laptop display open as well?
