Please help me to NOT by a PC laptop.

I'm a technical editor for four 500-page navigational/boating/cruising guides, and have been told by my publisher to purchase navigational software in order to help with updating the publication each year.

I really, really, really do not want to buy a PC laptop.

First, does anyone know of any Mac-compatable charting software?

Second, would a 14" iBook or 12" PowerBook run VPC sufficiently well, or is it as bad as I hear it is?

i'm interested in this too... i haven't been able to find any GPS software to sync a mac with some of the handheld devices. bugs that crap out of me...

sort of the same vein...

Well, if I can run it with VPC I can get a 14" iBook to do it with....but I do not know VPC real well.

This probably won't help, but National Geographic has converted their TOPO series for each state to OSX compatible. It's software that has each 7.5 minute topographic map for every state. It can be found here

I've been using it for the last 3 weeks and it runs very good. Especially after trying to use VPC with earlier PC programs!
