Wow did I luck Out! I Bought a refurbished Rev. B 12 inch Powerbook in February of 2004. I loved it but had some problems with it. The first one arrived DOA. I had it replaced and it had to have the screen replaced due to white spots. The poor thing later developed a left loose hing. I had it tighened by Apple but it just got loose again. My one year warranty was set to expire last month on the 25th so on the 16th I sent it in for service to see if there was anything they cold do before it was to late. I got a call a week later from my local apple store and they informed me that my powerbook came back but the hinge was still loose. By this time it was out of warranty but the person I spoke with apologised and told me it could still be sent back because the repair hadn't been done right. I was with out a computer but I agreed to have it sent back for another try. I just got a call back today and they informed me that the repair STILL wasn't done right but they had decided to replace it with a brand new Powebook! I just about fell over when I heard that. I hurried down to my local Apple store and I am now the very happy owner of a 1.5 ghz 12 inch powerbook. The moved over all my data to the new computer and I also got ilife 05 and another year warranty.I was getting frustrated but it was all worth it.

How did it develop a left loose hinge when the hinge is just one long piece?

I honestly don't know. It was never right after I had the screen replaced and it only got worse.
