Advice on iPod ad endeavor....

What would be the easiest way of doing a photoshop version of "iPod Ads" for your own personal use. I have photoshop and illustrator, figured I might extend my skillz on those apps by doing a cool project like this one. BTW, I know there are sites that do these ad portraits for a HIGH price, that's not the advice I'm looking for...I did, however, post a pic from iPod My Photo.com, they seem to have the best looking stuff out there, but come on, 20 bones!
 
I hope someone will have an answer to this post. I quickly tried in photoshop, but it looked pretty bad. Maybe we can get a small tutorial from someone with photoshop skills?
