iMac G4: dead USB bus???

My son wanted to play his I Spy game tonight. Since it doesn't run very stable in Classic, I rebooted the computer (iMac G4 800/512) in OS 9.2, as I frequently (2-3 times a week) do. This time, when the computer booted back up, I couldn't get any response from the Apple mouse or keyboard. I unplugged, then tried a different USB port - nothing. Did a hard shut down using the power button, with the same result. Can't boot from a CD without using a keyboard command on a keyboard that does not appear to function. Don't know how to reboot to 10.3.8 without the use of an input device of some kind. Stumped.

Any ideas are welcome. My teenage daughter, jonesing for a little IM action, is eying up my PowerBook, and that is not a road I care to travel down.

Update:
Rebooted holding down the X key, forcing the Mac to boot in OS X. Took forever to restart (at least five minutes of grey screen with the "be patient" icon), but it finally rebooted, and all appears well with the keyboard and mouse. Haven't tried rebooting in 9.2 yet.

Might have to up the RAM to 768 so Classic will run more stable for this darned kiddie game.
