WOW, after laying off the CEO, they just did another 9,300!

The 60-day notices went to 5,200 hourly and 2,900 salaried production and service workers in Wichita, Kan. the Associated Press reported, citing Boeing spokesman Dick Ziegler.
An additional 1,200 workers also received layoff notices at Boeing's commercial aircraft plants in Tulsa and McAlester, Okla., according to the report.

The affected workers are being asked to reapply for their jobs with Onex (CA:OCXSV: news, chart, profile) . Last month, Onex agreed to purchase Boeing's commercial airplane manufacturing operations in Wichita, Kansas and Tulsa and McAlester, Okla. for $900 million, plus debt.

On Friday Boeing (BA: news, chart, profile) shares closed down 49 cents to $57.49.

Onex closed up 15 Canadian cents to C$20.55 in Toronto.

I feel sorry for the employees involved. This seems unusual for a company to layoff employees prior to a sale transfer.

No... this is typical of Boeing ramping up and down. Nothing more. If they get another large project, they'll hire back just as many or more.

Looks like Onex is buying the plants. Boeing employees are encouraged to apply for work at those plants.

Onex has a company that does aerospace design and manufacturing:

Looks like maybe Boeing is just "outsourcing" some of the aircraft assembly to them?
