Hello everyone,

I've been reading up on WOL.
I have used it for years on my windows machine but i've recently switched from windows to mac.

Every article that i've read is about waking a mac from sleep, but i don't put my imac into sleep, i completely turn it off (thats what i did with my windows machine as well). Should wol work while powered down as well?
if so, please tell me because it doesn't :)

Current setup:
I send a wol packet to my router on a specific (secret :)) port.
my router will broadcast it over the network on the appropriate port (9 udp).

On the Mac, remote wake only works from sleep, not from after a power down.

Note that with newer Airports/Macs you can also perform wake from sleep over wifi and not just wired ethernet.

hmm, that's kind of disappointing.
Plus, i have an old airport extreme, but it doesn't matter because i have an utp available and plugged in.
