I know this might sound like I'm trolling, but I'm doing this for all of you guys who are having a lot of trouble with your MBPs.
This is a general list of questions that troubleshoot the hardware-related problems only.
General
1. Did you search the forums yet?
2. Did you check other forums for solutions yet?
3. Did you check the internet for solutions yet?
4. Did you check Apple's support site yet?
5. Did you call your local tech guy yet?
6. Have you isolated the cause of the problem?
7. Can you describe the issue PERFECTLY, down to the smallest detail?
Only after you have done all of these things should you start a new thread.
RAM
1. Did you disconnect the battery before installing?
2. Did you ground yourself before installing?
3. Are you 100% sure the RAM are compatible?
4. Are the RAM inserted correctly?
5. Did you reset PRAM yet?
If you said no to any of these things, then you installed the RAM incorrectly.
Hard Drive
1. Was the hard drive packaged with a lot of foam or some sort of shock-absorbent packaging when you got it?
2. Is the drive making any unusual vibrations and/or sounds, such as a grinding or a clicking sound?
3. Are all of the screws holding the hard drive tight?
4. Did you ground yourself before installing? Also, was the hard drive sent with a slivery plastic anti-static packaging bag?
5. Did you disconnect the battery before installing?
6. Was the drive exposed to magnets?
7. Did you buy a used drive? Used hard drives have already used some of their (average) 5-year lifespan, so they are much more likely to crash.
If you said no to any of these things, then the hard drive may have some irreparable damage.
SSD
1. Did you ground yourself before installing?
2. Is that specific drive known to cause issues with the MBP?
3. Did you disconnect battery before installing?
4. Is the SSD plugged in correctly?
SSDs are a strange bunch. They superspeed your MBP, but some are so problematic that sometimes they're slower than 5,400 RPM HDDs.
Please PM me if you feel some things are missing from this list.
