Hi everyone,

I have a Macbook Pro 2009 and use smc Fan Control 74 Celsius/4944 rpm. I've always used it and rarely hear the fan whizzing or any other sort of sound except when I'm burning a disc or securing my trash empty. But now, I hear the sound even when I'm browsing the Internet and/or watching something on VLC. I also used my laptop for Photoshop and video editing with Premiere Pro.

Is this normal for turning-old Macbook Pro's? Should I be worried? Is there anything I can/should do? Please, please help me. Thank you!

Install iStat Pro to get accurate readings of your fan speed and temps, among other things. It's quite normal for fans to spin up when higher demands are placed on the CPU/GPU, such as when viewing movies, websites with Flash, etc.
