'Releasing' a printer for Guest use

I am using Virtual Box, an app that creates a virtual machine on osx to run Windows etc.

I need something from Windows on my virtual machine but my printer cannot be properly located from the Host (osx)

Someone mentioned in the Virtual Box forum that I need to "make sure that the MAC host has released the device before the guest will be able to use it"

Does anyone know how to do this?

Or even better.. setting up my printer (HP Photosmart C4180) for seemless use with both osx & my virtual machine?
