In line with our report from several days ago, Apple today updated its Apple Store application for iOS devices [App Store] with new support for build-to-order Mac customizations. The update also brings enhanced in-store capabilities to go along with other changes to the company's retail stores.
What's new

- Enhanced in-store mode lets you get help and support quickly when you're at an Apple Retail Store.
- The ability to custom-configure a new Mac with the options you want.

The Apple Store application is also now rolling out in a number of European countries. The app had been exclusive to the United States until today's update.

Unfortunately for iPad users, the Apple Store application is not yet universal and thus offers only a single view optimized for the screen size of the iPhone and iPod touch, although the app of course works on the iPad as well.

Nice option but I walked out of the apple store in Deer Park IL and walked across the street to Best Buy to buy my iMac. I waited 45 min for a "specialist" while all I wanted was a cashier. I used the iMac in the store to find the stock across the street and went over.

I can see the waiting list as being a deterrent for people to stay around even if you can reserve.

Just my opinion. I do like the improvements though

When will this be available in Australia?

The app store is all good, but when will it be available internationally? I've been waiting for this one.

Next upgrade will block you from accessing other ecommerce sites if you're inside an Apple store.

Be sure to complain online about this store. Last time I wanted to pop in and buy a replacement keyboard, it took me 20 minutes of waiting at the Deer Park store. There were maybe only 10 people in there on a week-night, and all the employees were occupied by non-paying customers. (not sure what they were really doing, but only saw 1 person buying an iPad and he had a million questions it seemed). Plus there were others working, maybe on break, walking to and from the back, but in street clothes. They all (at least 3 different people) walked by me and looked at me.

I am glad that Apple added a "queue for specialist" that you can sign up for, as I hope this type of problem gets fixed.

It would be nice if there was a way to queue up when you are ready to be checked out. Perhaps at a counter or something, and an employee could be waiting for you, rather than the other way around. Perhaps it could be at the front of the store, near the exit, so people can leave afterward. </sarcasm>

Absolutely agree. Every time I've gone there to buy a new mac, I've had to practically beg someone to let me pay for it. Whenever I drop in just to browse, I get 2-3 specialists asking if I need help. :rolleyes:

I'd love to be able to queue for check out.

$400 for an 8 gig DDR3 1066 upgrade?!? :eek: That can't be right. Two 4gb 1066 DDR3 laptop SO-DIMMs retail for $80 a set. Heck, PNY has them for $57 after rebate and free shipping. That $400 can't be right, can it? :confused:

EDIT: It isn't right. Apple's website shows the upgrade at $200. The image is apparently a mock-up.

Actually, it's not true. The upgrade is $200 according to Apple's website. That image must be a mock-up. :eek:

I'm impressed by the new app compared to the old one. I wish images could be made bigger but, whatever.

Don't understand why the Apple Store app isn't available for the iPad, yet. But, frankly, I'm quite happy that the weather app isn't. If it were, I wouldn't have gone looking and I wouldn't have found WeatherBug, a vastly superior app for checking out the weather conditions...

lol im more confused with 400$ for 8GB of DDR3 RAM. i got mine for 89€ xD crazy apple tax ...

edit: should have read the posts more carefully ^^ but 200$ still ...
