Help! iDisplay or Air Display?

I have a MacBook pro and an external monitor. I recently acquired an iPhone 3GS that works great except it resets every time it gets jostled (which makes it not very portable). I would like to turn it into an external monitor for my Mac, but am concerned that because I already have an external monitor that one (or both) of these apps will not work.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
