why does everything have negative by the comments?

Its a pointless system which really needs removing...it serves no purpose. The fact you can give your own posts a +/- shows how stupid it is.

(Mr T Style Voice) Vote Me Down, Foo's!

Edit: Point proven. 3 seconds after posting this it already had -1 :D Its pathetic...

I hate the new rating system. Thought it would be good but ended up being worse.

think mite work better if it was just a positve rating system. Because seem some just blanket the posting with negatives without reading them.

(wonder how many negative marks I get for this one )

I'm gunu +1 you.

A 'like' would be better. XenForo has it, but unfortunately we're stuck on crappy vBulletin here. There is a mod for it tho.

There's no good rating system in the world, not that I've ever seen. Not even Slashdot's advanced metamoderation system. The scoring of every rating system reflects nothing more than emotion and bias.

Imagine if there was a button that meant "I disagree with your post, but I really appreciate the points you made. They were well argued and greatly contribute to a reasoned debate. I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future."

How many people would be emotionally mature enough to click it?

Good point indeed. Imho just do away with it altogether.

Most posts of these types have been off-topic or trolling, and when that's the case we want the moderators to know about it.

I dont understand it either. I know some people just click - for the heck of it. Also, what the point of the rating? It would be could if some how it would bring the post up if it was really helpful/answered the question or topic well. But it dosent, so you still have to read through posts.

I believe this is just a test. The admins are still thinking of ways to improve this system (e.g. how the votes could be used) and it might be that at some point, the negative option is removed. There is already a long thread about this feature but I guess all feedback is appreciated.
