The 11.6" Macbook Air is incredibly thin and light , so something's gotta give. In my case I found out the screen was very fragile and it didn't take much of an impact to crack the glass and damage the underlying LCD
Accidental damage isn't covered by Apple's warranty and the replacement cost of the entire screen assembly was almost the cost of a new MBA, so I decided to take the DIY route. I've seen Techrestore videos on Youtube where they remove the bezel and LCD without disassembling the bottom case, whereas Ifixit instructions involve taking apart most of the computer.
I've also been having trouble sourcing for a replacement panel. I've heard Apple uses LP116WH4-TPA1 or AUO B116XW05 panels - these are either out of stock or ridiculously priced on Ebay. I'm wondering if it's possible to source a compatible screen like B116XW01 and flash the EDID to make it work.
Has anyone does this yet?
