That's pretty impressive. Here's the stock Apple 750GB 5400 RPM drive for reference. Where did you get yours?

I bought it from Germany. I'm living in Netherlands.

It's totally quiet and leaves no vibration.

I won't be needing this drive myself so I am willing to sell it. Send me a message if you want it. The price may be expensive for US standards though. I paid 89 euro. I would be asking the same + shipping. Have good ebay feedback.

Should be the same as the stock drive, it's a two platter 5400 RPM unit.

Sorry for the newbie question guys....

I've been looking to buy this drive and install it in the optical bay drive area. I'm planning to remove the stock 500 gig drive and install a 120 gig SSD drive in the main housing area where my stock drive is.

Couple of questions....

What kit do I need to put the 1 TB drive where my optical drive is now? I believe the 9mm drive will fit there correct?

And obviously I don't need anything for the SSD drive since it's going where my stock drive is. My idea is to use the SSD for the OS, applications, and etc. Then use the Samsung 1 TB drive to store media and etc.

Thanks!

You just need the $15 eBay Optibay kit ($11 if you don't mind shipping from Hong Kong). Then, move your home folder to the HDD. This will automatically keep your personal media on the HDD, but the Apps and OSX on the SSD.

I just got the 1TB Samsung Spinpoint M8 today and ran some benchmarks for any folks that are interested. (AJA, QuickBench, & XBench)

The XBench has the 1TB Samsung M8 on the left and the 500GB Apple (Hitachi) stock 7200rpm drive on the right. Pretty surprising results!

Just picked up this drive at PC Depot here in Japan for just under 9000 yen. Loving this drive. Completely quiet and devoid of vibration yet I get my 1TB and respectable performance for a 5400 RPM drive.

Now, if Seagate ever irons out their Momentus Hybrid and ups it to 1TB, I think then I'd have to upgrade again but for now, I'm very pleased.

Hey, I was wondering where in Japan you got this? Where is this PC Depot located? I saw around 5 to 6 results in Tokyo area in Google Maps.

Yeah, it's a chain store. They are authorized Apple resellers and I believe they do warranty work as well. The one I went to is close to Yokota AB on Route 5.
