I was browsing through the canadian smartphone plans and noticed that data was very expensive.

I also noticed that minutes and sms were much cheaper and were sometimes unlimitied.

Is there an app or service that takes advantage of this?

I'm talking about converting internet data into voice or sms, sending it through the greedy phone network and parsing it at a receiver which then forwards the request on to its destination.

The data to voice thing will be like dialup or GPRS. Both of which are very, very slow. The SMS thing will be even slower and the whole system will stop working if one SMS message arrives out of sync or not at all.
