I know similar tasks have been covered regularly, but I need advice for my particular situation:
I'm getting a '10 refurb MP (3.2GHz), replacing my ancient PPC G5 (finally!)
I'll be installing 12 GB memory, an additional CaviarBlack 1TB HDD and a 115 GB OWC SSD. The SSD will be the boot for System/Apps, the primary HDD for data, and the 2nd HDD a backup of both other drives combined.
I don't want to partition anything, I need to keep it as simple as possible, and will use SuperDuper (as I do now) to periodically back up the two drives. I also have a backup of everything on an external stored offsite.
So, to reveal my ignorance, after I install the new memory and drives, I would:
--Use install disc to format all drives (if needed). Choose SSD as boot drive and install OS on it.
--With Migration Assistant, copy entire old G5 drive (except Users Folder) to SSD.
--With MA, copy Users folder to primary HDD.
--With CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, copy both SSD and new primary HDD to new backup HDD.
--Pray...
I'm sure this is totally wack, so please set me straight. I feel like I should be able to do this on my own without calling in the cavalry if the fine folks in our forum can help me out!
