How do Apple retail stores test iPad batteries?

My iPad seems to hold its charge way worse and it's still under warranty. How does Apple test to see if I'm qualified for a free battery replacement?

I'm asking this because I don't want to drive 1 hour and 20 minutes to be told I'm not qualified.

They have a diagnostic software suite that reads logged battery info off of the iPad.

i kinda feel the same about my ipad. before, it used to take 30mins before it drops from 100% to 99% but now, it takes 10mins and it doesnt seem to last long. and i dont really use my ipad much. just web browsing on about 25-30% brightness.

You realize that 10 mins per 1% is still well above the advertised 10 hr battery life? They're not going to give any refunds or replacements for that.

They actually use a voltmeter as well as diagnostic software when I took my iPhone 3G in one time to have the battery checked.

Why not just have AppleCare do the repair via shipping it in (at no cost to you), vs spending all that time and money with gas?

I thought I had heard when the iPad first came out that when your battery goes dead, you get a refurbed iPad with a fresh battery. Is that no longer the case?
