Is there any way to tell what is causing a recurring kernel panic from the panic report? The mac mini won't stay on for longer than an hour without getting a kernel panic. I have reinstalled a fresh OS X, thought it may have been internal hard drive failure, so ran off an external hard drive, kernel panic still occurring... it isn't just one app either. Sometimes running transmission, sometimes nothing, sometimes ChronoSync. Is there no way to figure out what to do, just play around with different things? What is scutil? Some Help articles on apple.com suggest resetting PRAM or booting up in safe mode. What doesn't work in safe mode, if I did so? Thank you for any help/info.

Download Rember and test your RAM. I had persistent and random kernel panics for months... turns out the RAM was bad. The Apple Hardware Test didn't find anything wrong at the time, so it's worth trying out Rember.

Quick update. Genius bar said it's my internal hard drive. They replaced the hard drive for $140, and it's working great now. No kernel panics for over a week.

Update [9/13/11]: I got the kernel panics again, the new hard drive failed. Took it in, they discovered the RAM was bad and causing the hard drive failures and kernel panics. They replaced it and the hard drive (again). All is good now.
