Issues With Game Saves Between iPad and iPod

Ever since getting the iPad I've had all the games from the iPod touch synced flawlessly with the iPad (game saves and progress...). Now after syncing another iPod (sold the first one; set it up as a new device) all the games are reset to the beginning even though the progress is still saved on the iPad. Any suggestions? Hope this makes sense...
 
the save data is completely different between the 2 devices. you could restore the iPod from an iPad backup to try and get the save data onto the iPod, but the save game data does not synchronize between the devices...
 
Is there any reason to think games won't be able to use save to the documents in the cloud portion of iCloud?
