i know this has been talked about a lot but i can't find the answer i'm looking for.. maybe it doesn't exist...

since 10.6.8 is causing fairly widespread problems, i'm wondering if the combo update is a safer bet than the regular software update? obviously i don't want my imac to get bricked especially so close to the lion release.

i've got my time machine and OS install discs handy just in case, but i really don't want to need them.

I wouldn't say widespread, you just don't hear about the "No Problems" upgrades.

I had absolutely no problems after upgrading 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 via software update.

10.6.3 to 10.6.8 IS the combo update :p

Having said that, I used the delta update to go from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8 and haven't had any new issues.
