Upgrade MacBook pro logic board

I have a mid 2009 15" macbook pro 2.8 ghz, I know the processor is soldered in, so I was wondering if it was possible to buy a 2011 logic board, and put it in, all the ports are in the same place, and the shape of it seems to be the same, so im wondering if it would be possible and what possible issues there could be, besides voiding the warranty.

As Miles states, this is not possible. While the outer shell may appear the same, internally each model is unique, and the only upgrades you can perform are HDD and RAM.

The logic boards look exactly the same to me, right down to where the screws go in.

The 2011 logic boards are to different to be "installed" into your MBP. You "maybe" able to install a 2010 logic board in your 2009 MBP. Something to keep in mind before you spend $1000+ on that logic board, what else do you need - like CPU heat stink and CPU paste...

One bigger question, if you are looking to spend over (my guess) $1500 on this "new" logic board (that may or may not work) - why would you not sell the 2009 MBP and take those funds + the "new logic board+parts" funds and go buy a 2011 MBP?

Providing the Logic boards are the same in terms of size and screw location, then yes it will work the thing is your spending $1000+ to get the Motherboard and how are you going to choose what CPU and GPU you get on that? like is it going to be a 2.0, 2.2, 2.3. I suspect by the time you've got it, it would have been cheaper to sell your old one and get a new one.

i feel like the cost of u doing that will be the same as buying a new mbp

sell mid '09 15 2.8 ghz on ebay = $1000-$1200?

new logic board to upgrade = $1000

add those 2 = $2000 - $2200

cost of baseline mbp 2011 = $2000

very rough math but u get the idea.
