I create online fertility calendar 7 years ago and now has more than 80000 registrations in Bulgaria (it was not promoted worldwide). I use the knowledge and feedback from online calendar and collect all features that are most used and users find them useful - and the result is this small application - Hera.
It was very difficult to select a name that to be discreet enough and in same time to be related to fertility - and of course to be easy to recognize and remember.
Next step was to create an icon that to combine symbolism and simplicity and again to be related to the name. And finally we decide to have a stylized peacock as symbol that represent fertility and is also a bird that was one of the representations of the Greek goddess Hera.
I speak lot for discreetness because I think that is the most important quality of this application. Icon that does not contain flowers and girls and name that does not contain word as fertility, period, cycle and so on, was the biggest challenge. If user set password protection and intruder get access to the phone there is no information at all what this application is and for what is used.
As features we include not only tracking of data but also a lot of charts that helps data to be perceived with easy from everyone. Several features (as fast navigation) and charts (as Flat view) are unique for AppStore.
Work with application is simplified - all boring tasks as - save new data, delete not needed data, define period start and end, fertility forecasts and etc. are handled automatically.
To application design, look and feel we spend almost 1/3 of the whole development time. We have fully integrated themes support and all images are ready for retina display. Colors and shapes are specially selected for woman auditorium. All images are custom crafted and are only used inside this application.
