Try putting it into DFU mode, then restoring. Here's an article which includes a video on how to put your iPod into DFU mode.

Let me know if it works.

If the DFU mode solution is unsuccessful, you may need to kick your iPod Touch out of recovery mode.

To do this, simply download this program called RecBoot and follow the instructions listed here: http://jaxov.com/2010/11/download-re...ac-os-x-linux/

I was still getting the error 21 until I used Reb00t mee to kick the ipod out of recovery/DFU

From there I was into iOS but there was nothing installed on the iPod. The iPod has 4.1 installed and I was able to transfer music to the device. since there is no icons, I did a search and found the music but get an error that the URL cannot be found.

I was prompted to update to 4.2 and attempted to do so, first deleting all files from the iPod update folder and that is where the error 1603 came from.

I attempted to use tiny umbrella, but it does not find anything to push to the device..

Any thoughts?

Use iREB. http://ih8sn0w.com/index.php/products/view/ireb.snow

After running it, go ahead and lanuch iTunes and restore to whatever firmware you wish.
