I need Help I have a 3G iPod an when I try to play a song and it just froze up and it wont shut off but it will go to sleep after awhile. need HELP....

First thing to try is a hard reset: plug it into the power adapter, but not the computer. Then toggle the hold switch to hold, and back to normal, and then press and hold the menu and play buttons simultaneously for ten seconds.
