Yes, it's true...the build of Lion that Apple is selling today from the App Store is an older build than the one seeded to developers on July 1st. You also cannot install Lion if you are running the newer GM build. The question is, if you are running the GM, will Software Update be able to update you to 10.7.1 when it is available>

Lion build version from App Store = 11A494

Lion Golden Master build (July 1) = 11A511

This is interesting.

I installed from the App Store and have build 11A511

I believe this is what happens:

When you're installing Lion, if you are connected to the internet, the installer will fetch 11A511.

If you're not connected, you'll end up with 11A494.

Not that this is a big deal or anything, but correct me if I'm wrong.

THAT'S WHAT I WANNA KNOW. I would it makes me purchase Lion then instead of having to restore to Snow Leopard then buy it from there 😕

Well having now purchased, downloaded, and installed Lion from the App Store on one of my machines, I can debunk this story because my Mac here reports the installed OS X 10.7 to be build # 11A511, which is the same as the GM build.

Perhaps Apple released Lion earlier this morning (or released a version to previewers or on Hard Disks to the Apple Stores) with build 11A494, but I can confirm that the version downloaded as-of noon PST today is 11A511.

Dunno why you guys have an older build, but I got 11A511 from the app store.

No one has an older build. The installer is build 11A494, the actual OS is build 11A511 just like the GM.

If you installed the GM, the App Store now thinks you have the retail version (because, technically, you do) so updates should happen like normal.

my new macbook air 13" i7 shows 11A2063 for build how odd.

I noticed that on a youtube review. His MBA had totally different build too. Guess it was the same as yours.
Or are you that youtube reviewer?? 😛
