I think that is the ONLY thing that is keeping me from buying a 13'' Macbook Air at the moment ..

I'm in the market for a new laptop and I think that the Air has finally become able to be used as a "main" computer .. I don't really care about the graphics but 256GBs are just not enough for me .. 512GBs would have been ideal ..

The rumor is they are soldered in this time (we'll see when iFixit does its teardown). My guess is that they concluded there wouldn't be a large enough market for a $2249 11" model or a $2299 13" model (assuming Apple would use the same $600 differential between the 256 and 512GB models they do in the Pro).

That said, I did pay $2398 (vs. list $2499) back in November 2008 for my 128GB SSD Rev B, but the Air was a niche (almost experimental) product back then.

Hopefully some Thunderbolt external portable drives come out soon.

Probably because there are only a couple 512GB SSD's in existence and they are both $839 just for the drive.

Still an option ( just like with the MBPs ) would have been nice .. I think that I would have paid that much to get a 512GB 13'' MBA ..
