So my company gave me a macbook pro with lion on it with parallels running windows 7. here is my problem, I insert my usb drive and immediately I get asked if I want to associate the drive with mac or windows. If I choose the mac nothing seems to happen. no icon on my desktop and I have a very hard time trying to get into the flash drive. If i pull it out and select windows it automatically opens a window in parallels and asks what I want to do with the drive. And if I close the window I can easily find it in my computer after a few clicks.

why is apple making it difficult to try to locate a usb drive? is there a reason it no longer shows up on the desktop?

What can be happening with the OS X behaviour is you have not selected the show external drives on desktop in Finders preferences under the General option.
