I'm in Recovery HD right now trying to reinstall Lion. The download just about finishes, but then a dialog pops up saying "Are you sure you want to cancel the download?"

Regardless of whether I click "cancel" or "cancel download" (misleading button labels btw), the whole process stops. I've tried like five times.

?!?!

Has anyone successfully reinstalled Lion via Recovery HD?

Yeah... I struggled with this for an hour or so. I made the mistake of trying to fix it through Disk Utility. Just select the install lion option again and it will continue where it left off. I don't know why it happens, but Lion is actually installing for me now...

Not for me. When I go back in to install it again, it doesn't redownload the OS, but it still shows the same dialog.

Yeah, this is crazy. I'm currently running my iMac off a bootable backup on my external FW HDD because I can't reinstall Lion! I still haven't found a solution.

I called Apple and they said it is a known problem.

He adviced me to install snow Leopard via cd. Then download Lion And burn it on a disc and then install Lion from the disc...

Can't believe this bug got through.

Thanx!! So how do i dl lion again and burn it? Cheers

Edit: can i put it on a usb stick and install from there? Sorry new at this..

Yes external drives Will work too.

But after installing Snow Leopard you simply upgrade via the app store and burn the Lion disc for emergencies.

Edit: Works fine now, running Lion.

Possible Fix?

I had this same thing happen to me. I tried about 5 times before getting really frustrated. I got my Snow Leopard disc and booted up, but the SL install prompt never came up. I restarted again and decided to try to install Lion from the recovery HD one more time and it worked! I don't know if it was shear luck, but having the Snow Leopard disc in while trying the Lion recovery install worked. Maybe just having a DVD in the tray fixes the problem? The only other things I did differently before the install worked was:

- Opened up the install log inside the recovery mode (it's in the top menu)
- Opened up terminal and did a few cd/pwd commands (terminal is also in the top menu)

Will someone else try this and let us know if this works for you as well?!

Shaun

can you tell the commands you did?

I successfully reinstalled Lion via Recovery HD on my iMac.
But I didn't manage to reinstall it on Macbook Pro. The same dialog popped up. I tried several times but it didn't work. So I gave up and decided to install Lion on top of Snow Leopard.

I had the same problem here on my MacBook, after 4 times trying reinstall Lion, i don't know why, but i reset the PRAM (on restart CMD+OPTION+P+R) and voilà! Now i have Lion with a clean installation! ;D

options 'Cancel' and 'Cancel Download' during Lion Recovery OS reinstallation of 10.7

"cancel" or "cancel download" (misleading button labels btw)

Yes, there could be more clarity.

For me the dialogue coincided with my housemate walking into the room, reporting a loss of Internet service.

My housemate reset our router. I waited for Internet service to resume (evident on a nearby computer), then clicked Cancel, then again clicked Cancel. This seemed to cancel the reinstallation, causing representation of Mac OS X Utilities — without an opportunity to save the log that I had viewed during reinstallation.

I'm gathering screenshots and other items in folders on Wuala.

If you see the two options

Pending advice from Apple, it may be sensible to:

  • Cancel Download

I'll continue in Apple Support Communities:

THANK YOU! I was having this same issue on my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro, and this exact solution fixed it! Awesome!

Same issue with Recovery HD Lion and snow leopard spins forever

Hi I had the same issue where Internet Lion install fails to download after getting to 90%+ completion. So I tried to install SL. I put the SL DVD in and it just spins forever.

Any ideas what's going on?

Resetting PRAM worked!!!

Thanks so much; after 4 failed attempts always leading to the option to cancell the download or cancel I followed your advice and reset the PRAM. After that, chose reinstall Lion again and there was nothing more to download so it finally rebooted properly and completed the 20 minute install.
