Okay Just dropped off I will take a lot of photos. some unboxing. I can't stress more that since you don't get a cd/dvd of software my clone before power on method is a good idea.

I am pulling this drive and going to clone it without ever booting the mini.
the good news is you don't need to slide the entire inside chassis out to pull the hdd.
first shot shows the hdd pulled but still wrapped up
second is the plastic wrap note black tape
third shot shows me being very careful with cover
fourth shot shows cable pulled
last shot shows plastic cover removal
i did this to clone the drive to an ssd.
I never booted or powered the machine on.

Quick question though.
What are you planning on using the mini for?
I am going to use it as an HTPC and store most of my media on it. I just cannot justify 400+ for a 256GB ssd. I could get an external, but an external wouldn't look as good sitting next to my tv compared to just the Mini.

okay I grabbed the oem hdd and the samsung 256gb ssd put them in a 2 bay thermaltake dock and I am using superduper to clone. I never turned the mini on or did anything to to the hdd.

I picked up a Mini yesterday morning. Screwed around with Lion server all day yesterday and this morning and finally came to the conclusion that for me, Lion Server is not going to be of any use AND that its NOT that simple to get everything configured. So sadly I returned it.
Damn now I really wish I had gotten my new iMac with the dual drives option as I saved that money for a Mini I did not even keep.

the clone is moving along just a bit slow. clone is done 20 mins to do the clone. now to assemble!
the hard parts of this are ;
1) pulling the fan out you need to be careful with the connector.
2) make sure you have the right tools
3) the oem drive has the tape and the plastic wrap

okay I am on the mini with lion working and the samsung 256gb ssd cloned okay. I am waiting on the ram for another day. the whole task with the clone and the photos and the thread was less then 2 hours.
first problem I can't access my synology server oh well. my geek bench score for 32 bit was 5889. I need to power this off for a bit i want to see how much juice this pulls I will put a kill a watt meter to it

it reads your servers software is not compatible with lion please contact your servers company for support.
Absolutely it is easier not easy but easier. the fan needs to be pulled with care. the sata cable is weak. the black plastic wrap looks to be needed. All in all it is not hard to do a replacement. I really suggest you clone the hdd like I did before you ever turn the machine on/ I now have a virgin back up in the oem hdd.
Ohh, I thought maybe something crazy like you couldn't connect to it's network shares...
Bought the 2.5ghz Mac Mini this morning and it certainly has adjustable overscan, I know for sure as I used it.
The standard screen was overshooting which meant that the menu bar across the top was 'off the screen' and the very bottom edge of the dock was off the screen in the opposite direction.
Within displays in system preferences is a slider for adjusting the overscan, you can adjust using this slider by huge amounts not just small adjustments and it works a treat!
thanks for the info. So far the machine has nice response very quick.
I do have the 256gb samsung ssd in it but only 2gb ram.
The one thing that is surprising me so far is the hand brake is slow. same speed as the 2009 mini. not sure if it is the lack of ram 2gb or the intel graphics or that I am running a lot of stuff.

I opened a Mac Mini today too and I found my Torx T6 screw driver wouldn't lock into the fan screws.
It is a cheap screwdriver and was thinking that it wasn't made to a high enough standard.
Did you manage to unlock the fan screws easily enough?
Is the machine entirely silent with the SSD (except fan noise)? Mines is making clicking noises every now and then despite me changing the drive to a Scorpio Blue. Since the SSD install, there are no clicks or anything?

very quiet. now i ran handbrake and that gets the cpu going so the fans kicked up but with normal use it is really quiet. I have a lot of shots of the opening of the case.

they were no problem I am posting more photos i have some shots of them top left all ram removed started with the fan.
second left the little clip
third left the other little ram clip be gentle they can be broken
top right the first stick of ram is loose

this is the antenna removal. early in the thread I have photos on it the oem virgin hdd removed. after the oem was removed it was placed in a thermaltake doc along with a samsung 256gb ssd. clone made then the ssd was put in the mini bottom two photos show prep to put it in place see cable in the last photo
