what filesystem do you recommend for external drive to use with OS X and Linux?

Hi guys,
some recommendations to what filesystem to use with a external hdd drive (a new 1Tb Western Digital portable)? I want to use the drive with Macs and GNU/Linux machines.

HFS+, exFAT or NTFS? One which can offer good performance and good support (native or with third party addons) in both operating systems.

Just OS X and Linux? No Windows requirement? Go with EXT4.

really, ext4? i never heard about ext4 with OS X. Have native support?

actually FAT32/NTFS will do... however you need a software called "NTFS for mac" to write fils into NTFS HDD.

Or HFS+ filesystem. Here's information about how to mount hfs+ under linux OS (kernel 2.6.15 or higher needed): http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/HOWTO_hfsplus
