Xferring 360 Save Game data to new Xbox
The new slim line xbox360s don't have memory ports (like the original) for the purpose of backing up game saves. This Engadget.com article says to dump save games onto a USB thumb drive to move to the new slimline 360. I'm not in the vicinity of my original xbox right now and I don't remember if it has a usb port? I think it does. Could someone verify the idea would be to plug the USB thumb drive directly into the original xbox360, xfer the save game data and put it into the new xbox?
Thanks!

Yup both have USB ports.
However if you want to transfer from Xbox 360 orig HDD to new Xbox360 you will need the official MS Xbox360 hdd transfer cable. I am not sure what will work from slimline to slimline...

You do not require a transfer cable. I transferred all of my save files from an old white Xbox 360 hard drive to my new Kinect bundle with a 250 GB hard drive.
You can use a USB thumb drive or an external hard drive connected through the Xbox 360's USB port and move the files over to whatever storage medium you're using. The USB stick or external hard drive will need to be formatted by the Xbox 360 first before you can do the transfer. After the transfer finishes, you can connect the USB device to your new Xbox 360 and move the files to it. Save files will transfer with no problem, it's cake. If you installed games to your hard drive however, those files will not transfer. You'll have to install the games all over again on your new hard drive. |

Thanks for info guys! I do have a USB thumb drive. I'll hook that up and see how it goes.
