now that we are seeing ROMS for 6870, could someone try out this attempt on 6000-series flashing support for zeus:

http://groths.org/zeus/test/6870flasher.zip

please verify first that you have 2 different roms to flash between and that you can notice difference between them (like flashing from/to netkas mac rom and noticing that bootscreen works/doesnt)

Ive downloaded zeus.. Everything is set up and labeled for the 4870. There doesn't seem to be a facility to back up the current ROM, or am I missing something?

I have a 2008 Mac Pro and am looking to buy a PC graphics card for some BF3 action. Is a 6870 the way to go if I want the least amount of issues? Is there a particular card I should purchase?

The least amount of issues may be Apples 5870. It's faster than 6870 anyway. But costs more than twice as much. Because, you know, it's Apple's.

New GUI ROM creator

The brilliant one has gone the extra mile and added a GUI ROM creator.

It extracts the PC ROM from your 6870 and adds Netkas' EFI.

The only way this could get any easier is if he drove over to your house and flashed it for you.

Three cheers for Netkas !!!

Currently, and for some months now, in-stock PC 5870s are extremely expensive too. The days of $150-$180 PC 5870s are long gone for some reason.

Yeah. I was looking the other day for a possible crossfire later down the road but 349.00 or more for a PC card is tough to swallow for it's age. I hate ebaying GPU's. Never sure what condition you're getting.

I've been reading up on this for a while, just wondering what exact stage we are at.

If I were to buy a reference 6870 or 6970 what would the score be?

1. Is flashing involved or just some kext changes?
2. Does it work 100%? I.e. DP, DVI, DVD Player, Steam games, boot screen, i.e. EVERYTHING that my Apple 4870 does currently?

Just planning my upgrade route if the E5-1650 (6 core 3.2Ghz SB-E) Mac Pro 2011 is too much/too slow.

(Thinking W3680 + 6870 maybe 6970..)

Cheers!
