I was wondering if anyone knew of a car adapter that works with the 11 inch 2010 macbook air. I get most excellent battery life out of my 1.4 ghz machine. with click to flash and low brightness im getting a solid 7 hours net surfing. If i could find a car adapter to be able to charge it in my car that would be really great. power would become a non issue.

You could get an inverter something like http://www.amazon.com/Car-Power-Inverter-12V-AC-500mA/dp/B0046VGBZ2 or http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-50-Wat...XYHY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313885308&sr=8-1

Although the airplane adapter is reported to work in some cars it doesn't charge the laptop.

Or you could do this: http://pangea.stanford.edu/~schmitt/magsafe/

the home made one looks kinda scary. i wont attempt that. the first invertor you showed doesnt accept a 3 prong plug like the apple cord has. basically there is no ground pin. but the other adapter is interesting. the inverters have shrunk a whole lot since the last time i looked at em 20 years ago. maybe i will get a simple plug in your lighter inverter.

thanks for the insite

Does it really work? It says right in the docs NOT to use it in a car...

On mine it will power the laptop but won't charge it. I only tried it once, I have it in my glove compartment just in case, but when I first got it I tried it, and the green light on the magsafe came on, but on the air it would say "not charging" and the plug appears on the battery icon. When I click the battery icon it says (Battery is not charging, Power Source: Power Adaptor). At that time I also restored the mac from a time machine back-up and it was running for 3-4 hours strait. and had like 38% battery when I got home, so either I have a magic 11" air that would run for 7+ hrs, or that it wasn't using up its battery while it was hooked up in the car. So it won't charge the battery, but it should power the computer. At least that appears to be happening on mine.
