Superdrive does not recognize DVDs

Hi, I was hoping someone could help me with this issue. The superdrive in my 1 ghz imac g4 does not recognize DVDs. It doesn't even spin them. It just sits there and then ejects them. It recognizes CDs just fine and will spin and play them. Does anyone have an idea of what I can/should do?

Not sure if this helps, but the model number of the drive is: sony dw-u10a.

Do you think this could be a firmware or region issue? I was able to reinstall using my panther dvd. But when it boots up and I insert a movie or any DVD program installer, nothing happens.

Same Problem!!

I have been having the exact same problem with my iMac 800 foe a loooong time now, and cannot figure it out. I have searched Apple support and the much of the internet for a solution. The best I have come up with for a suggestion that I have seen is to get a high quality lens cleaner, but this was not a definitive solution, and I have yet to try it out of fear of somehow loosing my ability to read data altogether. Any advice from the community would be great!! It woul be nice to use it.
