Unhappy iPod Touch Syncing to new Computer.....help

So when I bought my iPod Touch 4G back in September '10, I initially synced it with a PC (which had lots of music, movies and TV shows on it). Well, the PC died and I got a MacBook Pro (which I had been planning to do anyways). When the PC started to go I had moved the media over to a different Mac in our house that wasn't really mine. So I used Time Machine to get it all on my Mac.

But anyways here it is:

When I plug the iPod in to the Mac, I can make backups, I can transfer purchases, I can software update. But I can't fully sync it with the Mac. iTunes is saying that the iPod is synced to another library on another computer and that if I'd like to, I can sync it to the new one but it'll erase everything from it. I'm fine with it erasing the music, because it's all on here. It can erase my Camera Roll because it's all in iPhoto. But if it erases my (quite a lot of) apps, will any of the apps' data be intact when I sync it back over? I know I have backups made, but if it erases the iPod because its synced to another computer (which by the way iTunes, that computer is DEAD), will, say, I lose my Angry Birds levels (not to sound like a person who has no life but games, but I'd be pretty pissed if they were lost for this reason).

Sorry for ranting. But again-bought iTouch, synced to PC, PC is dead, can't sync to mac unless it removes apps, will that erase app data.

Thanks.

You would lose your apps' data. It's good that you have so much backed up. There are some iPod file browsers out there that might be able to grab some more data off your iPod. I don't know if you will be able to send it back to the iPod without jailbreaking. I don't use a lot of apps, especially games. Do they not have any kind of recovery feature? I think you know already that any app you purchased with your Apple ID you will be able to redownload.

Ok. Yeah I'm not worried about getting stuff back on there, it was just wether it would also bring the data. Apparently not -thanks though for the reply .

It just seems like Apple thought "If someones computer dies (in most cases probably a computer they paid US a lot of money for) and they want to sync with a new one, lets make them lose their app progress! Hahaha!".

So maybe not that extreme but it is pretty dumb.......

Not to hijack your thread but just so you know you are NOT alone!!!

I too have to sync to a "new" computer (not really new since I just have to format my pc but itunes will think its new though) and it just seem ridiculous that I have to loose all my app data (not apps themselves, just the data within). I understand your pain with angry birds hahah I feel the same way about tiny wings! But other than games I have other apps such as "memorable wines" where I've spent several months collecting data which I'd hate to loose.

I still have faith there is a way out there to solve this issue. I'll keep searching and let you know if I find anything, please do the same if you find something relevant

Cheers!

A heads up for anyone going through this problem.

I tried the solution I posted right before this post and I can say it works perfectly! I did not loose any high scores or any other data on any apps. Its as if nothing happened. I did have to restore to factory settings but after using the backup I had its working perfectly with everything back on it (including all the app data). I was scared to try it, but i'm glad i did! Hopefully this will help some of you out there!

Cheers!

Just wait until iOS 5 comes out. It backs up app data and everything else to iCloud.

I thought about that, I just cant wait that long. Or this can be used if the device is not iOS 5 compatible.

ok thanks i think i'll wait for iCloud first but then if that doesn't work i'll use your links (don't know why haha, just feeling random and don't necessarily need to sync with the new mac at this very moment)......thanks for the links!
