If someone was give an educated guess, what specs do you think the next PowerBook might have?

Your guess is as good as anyone else.

I'm hoping for something along the lines of dual core and more RAM capacity. This is very do-able I think. I think a G5 powerbook would just be plagued with problems across the board. Best just to keep it as simple as possible.

Dual core G4!!!

Dual dual-core G6 processors @3.0 GHz
4 GB XDR RAM
32x DL Superdrive
250GB 10k rpm hard drive
2x 6800Go (Apple SLI)

Featuring a futuristic, backlit keyboard -- now as bright as the sun! 😀

Don't you think you're forgetting something?

1.) HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc) drive
2.) 20" HD OLED monitor
3.) Case will only be 1/8" thick when closed.

The quote, "The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously" springs to mind for some reason.

Let's be realistic about this.... It'll help ease the pain. We know nowt about the future powerbooks but if they release anything remotely close to the specs you just listed, I will eat my own arm.

Top end - PowerBook
1.75GHz G4
100GB HD
512 MB RAM
ATI 9600 Mobility

That's about it. The rest of the line would fight for the chicken scraps.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and speculate it won't have a G5 processor. But hey, I've been wrong before so you never know.

I think that we will see a 1.8 ghz dual core G4 w/a 200mhz fsb in the high end.

You're probably confusing the 7448 (1.8+ GHz with 200 MHz FSB) which is sampling/in production with the upcoming e600 model (1.8+ GHz, 667 MHz bus, various other features - do a search) which is sampling in the second half of this year with production next year. It has single or dual core models.

And yes, 1.8 GHz with a 200 MHz FSB via the new 7448 is the most likely update for the Powerbooks.

Hopefully it won't be the 9600 Mobility, seeing as how the current lineup has 9700 Mobility. 🙂

no 14" ibook

15" pb $1999 [current 15" pb sd + 128mb 9700 dl and 100gb hard drive and optical audio (same specs as 17"er right now)
17" pbG5 $3299 2.0ghz g5 400mhz fsb, 6600go 256mb, bluetooth2 and ap, 1gb ddr2 533 ram (1 dimm) w/ 4 dimm slots, 100gb 7200rpm drive standard or optional 120gb 5400rpm, 8x, dual layer capable slot-loading drive, 1.5" thick, 1920x1200 screen

Yeah, I read through the FreeScale stuff one day a little too fast. You are correct and here is the proof: http://www.freescale.com/webapp/sps/site/overview.jsp?nodeId=018rH3bTdG7249

Ah, but you've not seen how long my limbs are...

The last update to the PowerBooks introduced various new bits of technology to the range – Bluetooth 2, the Sudden Motion Sensor, trackpad scrolling... I wouldn't expect the next revision to give anything much beyond a slight speed bump and maybe larger hard drives.
