Well as my luck would have it my left speaker onmy iBook sounds blown and the Z will only do uppercase - repaired permissions and Zaped the PRam



Any Ideas ? running 10.3.9 1.2ghZ 768mb

Have you tried re-installing the OS after you've backed everything up or just using Disk Utility from the CD(DVD?) you got with your Mac. That might work, although it sounds more of a hardware problem than a software problem. Unless you're leaning on your shift key when typing "Z" and playing Pink Floyd through your iBook! :p ;) :D

yep i'm expecting tiger to be he in the next 35 min so will try that - if no joy i'm gonna have to send it back to apple for repair

Boot into Open Firmware (Cmd-Opt-O-F on startup) and see whether you can type a z. If you can, it's a software problem.
