Does MacBook Air charge an iPhone and iPad when it isn't plugged in?

I just got a MacBook Air and I was curious if you can transfer the power from the MacBook Air's battery to the iPhone and iPad while it is on the road and not plugged in.
 
That's Worth knowing

My MBA is due on the 28th...I'm normally good at organising my iPhone, but sometimes run low on power during long hospital visits.

The Air is light enough to carry both with me.
 
How much of the MBA's battery would it take to fully charge an iPhone? 20 percent?
 
Another way to ask this question is this :

"Do the USB ports still provide power when the MBA isn't plugged in ?"

Asking it like that kinda answers it without even having to ask. 😉
 
Yeah. I keep an old iBook charged up all the time. Why? So if there's a power cut I can charge my devices off it!
